Gorilla trekking in Bwindi is carried out in any of the park’s 4 regions which include Buhoma, Rushaga, Nkuringo and Ruhija. In each of these gorilla sectors, there are already habituated gorilla groups and as per this itinerary you will be assigned to only one group which you will be visiting in a group consisting of 8 guests.

Mountain Gorilla in Bwindi

Wildlife/game viewing as per your itinerary will be enjoyed in the lush Lake Mburo National Park. This park lies in Western Uganda and is the most accessible from the heart of Kampala city. While in Lake Mburo Park, expect to experience the best of game drive and boat cruise.

A game drive in Lake Mburo Park takes you through some of the park’s finest game tracks. The different game tracks get you incredible sights of wildlife and common mammals to expect to see include buffaloes, elands, zebras, Defassa waterbucks, reedbucks, oribis, impalas, and giraffes, etc.

A boat/launch cruise will be enjoyed on Lake Mburo, an ideal spot for you to encounter aquatic species like hippos, crocodiles and diversity of water birds.

All the activities on this travel itinerary will be done with presence of an experienced park ranger guide. The first destination to be visited as per this travel plan will be Lake Mburo National Park then you continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Detailed Tour Plan of the 5-Day Uganda Safari:

Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park, Boat Cruise.

Today marks the start of your 5 day safari and first, you will be provided with a delicious breakfast. After the breakfast, you will meet and greet the driver who will be picking you up at your respective hotel facility.

At this point, your property should be ready to be packed in your 4×4 safari vehicle and later, set off from Kampala. Drive along Kampala-Masaka-Mbarara route and Lake Mburo National Park will be accessible between 4 and 5 hours.

En-route, you will have a stopover at the Equator crossing where you have photography moment.

After a short photography moment, continue to Lake Mburo National Park where you will check in your pre-booked lodge for relaxation and early lunch. Later, catch up with the afternoon launch cruise which will be enjoyed on Lake Mburo.

On a boat cruise, expect to spend 2-3 hours and essentially, keep eyes on hippos, crocodiles and water birds. You will get back to the lodge to relax, share your day experiences, dine and later retire for the night.

Day 2: Morning Game Drive & Travel to Bwindi.

Enjoy your early morning breakfast and after, leave your lodge for a rewarding game drive along one of the best game tracks in Lake Mburo National Park.

Today’s game drive will take you about 2-3 hours and a range of wildlife will be spotted in their natural habitat. Within Lake Mburo Park, there are diverse species of wildlife to be encountered including hyenas, impalas, zebras, oribis, buffaloes, elands, Defassa waterbucks, topis, and reedbucks and also many bird species.

After the incredible wildlife encounter, get back and you will check out or proceed to Bwindi if you left with your luggage already. En-route to Bwindi, expect to view the countryside breathtaking landscapes characterized by undulating hills and vast banana plantations.

Arrive at Bwindi early for you to check in your pre-booked accommodation. Relax, dine and later retire for the night.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi.

First, you will have breakfast at the comfort of your lodge and after, leave when fully set for gorilla trekking adventure. You will go with some pack of lunch and join other guests for briefing on gorilla trekking guidelines at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offices.

The park official will be available to take you through the entire briefing session, then also assign to you a habituated gorilla group and park ranger guides.

Note, over 22 habituated gorilla families survive within Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and only one is visited per group of 8 visitors that is on a single day.

Mountain Gorilla Encounter

The day to trek mountain gorillas will take you from 2-6 hours which also includes an hour for up close and personal encounter with these large apes.

You will watch closely how they behave, learn how they make their nests for the night and more. You will take pictures and after this great moment, get back to chill at your accommodation.

In the afternoon, you may take part in the Batwa cultural experience but this is optional and will be done if you still have the energy.

Day 4: Bwindi to Lake Bunyonyi.

At leisure, you will have a hefty breakfast at your respective gorilla safari parks. After, depart for Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale, also popular as Uganda’s deepest lake and home to numerous little birds, plus over 29 islands.

You will drive at leisure and arrive early to check in your lodge around Lake Bunyonyi. You will be served lunch and then in the afternoon, you will be catching up with a boat or canoe ride on Lake Bunyonyi.

The canoe ride will have you enjoy the spectacular view of the dotted islands, surrounding breathtaking landscapes and also sight some birds. You will also be paying a visit to one of the islands then return to have chill at your respective lodges.

Day 5: Departure from Lake Bunyonyi.

After a hefty breakfast in the morning, check out of your lodge around Lake Bunyonyi.

From Lake Bunyonyi, drive back to Kampala or Entebbe and en-route, you will have lunch break and another phase for photography at the Equator crossing.
